CD statistics
Ever seince the upbringing of downloadable music CD sales have fallen massively. Sales dropped by 3.5% in 2009 to 128.9 million, they had been falling for five years. The fall wasnt as bad as was expected because there was a 56.1% rise in album downloads to 16.1 million, thats one in eight sold. However this means that people were on the rise of purchasin downloadable content rather than CD/Albums. Across the entire year in 2009 singles sales increased by 32.7% to a record 152 million. However 98% of them were digital downloads. Downloads of entire albums have helped cushion the declinging sales of albums on CD - down a fitfh since 2004. Although CD sales have fallen and downloadable content has risen, the punk/rock industry plays an important part in these statistics and this genre of music is now a large part in the amount of music downloaded everyday.
