A digipak usually in the shape of a book-styled paperboard and can hold multiple Cd's or DVD's inside. Digipaks are popular and used a lot by major record labels because they are more resistant to cracking. Also the disc tray inside can protect the CD if the package is crushed. Digipaks only came about massively in the early 2000's and ever since it has been the main use of packaging. At present time record labels are trying to make digipaks more environmental friendly and improve functionality. Most digipaks advertise the album or CD which they are selling and have a similar cover to the albums poster or magazine advertisement. The best digipaks have more things inside than just the CD, they offer small booklkets on the album and band and can also include added extras which promote the album or are simply used for selling purposes. For instance the orange coloured digipak shown above includes the CD and a small booklet offering information on the album. Most digipaks offer more than this one and normally have 2 or 3 added extras. However the yellow digipak includes much more extras and this promotes the album and artist/band and promotes the digipak and helps it sell.
